It’s official. Old fashioned is often best. We’re not afraid to revamp this old classic though. Swap those knife skills for some spiralizing and put an Oppo twist on your next apple crumble. 

If you don’t have a spiralizer, don’t panic! Just core and chop the apples instead. It won’t make any difference to the flavour and you won’t need to change the cooking time. So, no excuses. Get baking.

Oppo recipe: Spiralized apple crumble with Oppo Vanilla ice cream

Ingredients (makes 4 servings)

  • 6 large apples (we used Braeburns)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 200 grams spelt flour

  • 100 grams rolled oats

  • 30 grams coconut sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 60 grams of room temperature virgin coconut oil

  • A pinch of sea salt

Method

1.    Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.

2.    Spiralize the apples until you end up with one massive pile of apple strings.

3.    Toss the cinnamon and honey to the spiralized apples and pop it all into a baking dish.

4.    In another bowl,mix the spelt flour and coconut sugar with the rolled oats and salt.

5.    Add the coconut oil and rub everything together with your fingers until you get a breadcrumb-like consistency. Get stuck in!

6.    Top the apples with the crumble mixture and bake everything for 40 minutes (you’ll smell it when it’s ready!)

7.    Serve while hot and with a big scoop of Oppo Madagascan Vanilla ice cream.
